If you’re pregnant, you should be very careful when it comes to eating fish. Because fish is the food that is most commonly afflicted with trace amounts of mercury (or sometimes more substantial amounts), eating too much fish can be very dangerous for your child. There are a lot of problems that can occur from too much mercury and birth defects are among those things.
The birth defects mercury poisoning can cause should be enough to make sure that you think twice before potential exposure to mercury when pregnant. However, there can be additional effects that mercury poisoning can have on your own body that should even further steer you away. Just to be safe, it’s good to avoid fish or anything else that could potentially have mercury when pregnant.
