Mercury is one of the most volatile and toxic substances known to man; though mercury has been used in several common products.  Mercury is present in some cosmetics, in fluorescent bulbs, and also in thiomersal, a preservative common in childhood vaccines.  Though use of cosmetics and exposure to broken fluorescent bulbs is quite manageable, it can be scary to think that mercury is being injected into the bloodstream of young children.  Several modern childhood vaccines don’t contain near the amount of thiomersal as they did in the past, but it is still a substance with some dangerous potential that should be monitored.

The effects of mercury poisoning include vision problems, skin discoloration, high blood pressure, burning or itching pain, swelling, memory impairment, and kidney damage.  These are just a few of the basic effects, as mercury poisoning has also been linked as a cause of autism and more serious illnesses.
