How to Educate Yourself about Autism
, 08 30th, 2012
There are many ways to inform yourself about autism once recognizing that your child has autism. Oftentimes, the doctor who diagnosed the child will recommend some venues for you to get started. It’s very important to keep up with the times in regards to understanding how to raise an autistic child.
There are books, magazines, website, films, and classes that you can take even to further understand autism and how to handle a child dealing with autism. It is important after your child is diagnosed with autism to undergo at least some form of autism education , even if it’s as informal as reading some websites or books. Any amount of education can help and the more you have, the better you have a chance to further understand and bond with your autistic child.
The Autism Asperger’s Digest
, 08 28th, 2012
When my son was diagnosed with Asperger’s syndrome, I wanted to do as much research as I could to fully understand what this was going to mean for him. As it turned out, there was a ton of information out there; honestly, there was so much that it was overwhelming. Some of it was contradictory sometimes, there was advice pushing one way or the other and it was tough to tell who was credible.
I found a magazine called The Autism Asperger’s Digest where I could read a number of articles on autism. On their website, I was able to read about the background of their columnists. Some of them were doctors, others were parents with experience with autistic children, and some of the columnists were autistic themselves, giving me great hope for my own son.
Frozen Yogurt over Ice Cream
, 08 23rd, 2012
I’m a big fan of ice cream but I know that it can be quite unhealthy for me, so I was looking for an alternative for a long time that would be a little bit better for me but still taste as good. I couldn’t really find anything that was labeled as ice cream that was somewhat healthy and still tasted great. That’s when I realized that I was looking in the wrong places.
While some people may be against frozen yogurt, I believe that the right kind tastes even better than ice cream, not to mention the fact that it’s healthier for you. My favorite kind of frozen yogurt comes from TCBY. To make it even better, the frozen yogurt is packed full of probiotics that can be used as preventative measures for a number of diseases and disorders.
Keep Up with the Research

Though the causes of autism are still fairly unclear to medical professionals, many believe that it stems from a mixture of genetic and environmental causes. Regardless of how autism is caused, the diagnosis of autism has risen in recent years, perhaps due to doctors being better able to properly diagnose it or because its causes are becoming more prevalent. In either case, autism can be very difficult for a child as well as for that child’s parents.
When it comes to parenting a child with autism, there are a number of things that should be done. Certainly, the most important aspect is getting support. Ensuring that you are educated as a parent about autism is essential to the proper care of your child. Staying up to date on scientific research regarding autism is always a good choice.
Frightening Symptoms
, 08 16th, 2012
My wife started to seem like she was inexplicably sick not too long ago. She’s a bit of a stubborn one so it took longer than I would have liked for us to take her to a doctor; she kept saying that she was stronger than whatever bug she might have picked up and that there was no way she needed a doctor. It was only when her skin started peeling for no reason that she became alarmed enough to go to a doctor.
The doctor asked us what sorts of things had been happening to my wife and we began to describe her symptoms. Her skin had been turning pink, especially in her cheeks; she had felt itchy to the point of insomnia; her vision and hearing seemed to be worse than usual. The doctor mulled all of this information over and quickly informed us that these were mercury poisoning symptoms, which could lead to a number of very dangerous diseases that could seriously affect my wife’s health. Luckily, we were able to start treatment in time and my wife has since made a full recovery.
Young’s Syndrome
, 08 14th, 2012
I recently learned about a rare disease known as Young’s syndrome, which was named after Donald Young, the urologist who first observed signs of the disease in 1972. One of the most prominent symptoms of Young’s syndrome is significantly reduced fertility in men, also known as azoospermia. Other symptoms include bronchiectasis, which is an obstructive lung disease not unlike bronchitis or emphysema, and rhinosinusitis, an inflammation of the sinuses.
The most alarming part of Young’s syndrome is that it is commonly not properly diagnosed until later on in a man’s life, even though its causes have directly been linked to events that occur in childhood. It seems that the cause of Young’s syndrome is related to early childhood mercury poisoning. This is simply more evidence that there are many different types of diseases and syndromes that can ultimately be linked back to mercury poisoning.
History of Vaccines
, 08 09th, 2012
There are a number of diseases that were once prevalent in children that are almost completely eradicated now due to vaccines. While there is some controversy in regards to a few vaccines, they have ultimately done a great deal of good when it comes to reducing the amount of terrible diseases that existed commonly over a century ago.
Vaccines for polio, measles, mumps, and rubella, among others, have reduced the amount of outbreaks of these dangerous diseases – some of which can cause inflammation of the brain, pneumonia, deafness, and even death – to the point where they’re scarcely seen at all. Though some controversy does exist regarding vaccination, the majority of scientists advise taking it into serious consideration.
Autism Therapies
, 08 07th, 2012
Generally, upon discovering that your child has autism, the best thing to do is to utilize behavioral therapy and special education programs that are specifically tailored to help young autistic children. There are a number of autism therapies related to treating your child such as speech and language therapy, social skills therapy, and even occupational therapy.
There are a number of alternative methods when it comes to treatment for autism, but the best way to start out is by finding the basic therapies that your child may need and enter your child into special education in order to properly prepare them for their later years in life. Many children that receive this kind of treatment earlier on can improve their ability to function in general society and decrease the severity of certain autism symptoms.
Feeling Sluggish
, 08 02nd, 2012
For weeks I couldn’t seem to get out of a funk. I felt sluggish all the time and was experiencing weird headaches. I finally spoke with a holistic health practitioner who took a detailed medical history.
When I described my eating habits he immediately homed in on the problem. My high in fish diet had caused a build up of toxins in my system. He recommended a heavy metal detox program, which, sure enough, did the trick. Within a few days of completing the regimen I felt my stamina returning and the mental and physical fog I had been in fading.
