ABA

Viral infection, including rubella during the first trimester of pregnancy, has been studied as a possible cause of autism. Children with Fragile X syndrome or tuberous sclerosis have higher rates of autism than the general population. Autism affects males four times more often than females. The symptoms vary greatly but follow a general pattern.

As of today there is no treatment for autism. Studies are still being done to find a cure for autism every day. Though there is no cure currently, there are methods that you can try to modify the behavior of autistic children. One way is through ABA. Applied behavior analysis is the theory that rewarded behavior is more likely to be repeated than ignored.

Mercury Poisoning

Mercury poisoning is a disease caused by exposure to mercury. The consumption of fish is by far the most significant source of ingestion-related mercury exposure in humans. Exposure to mercury can occur from breathing contaminated air. Inhalation of high concentrations causes a wide variety of disturbances in your body.

Birth defects mercury poisoning can be delayed developmental skills, altered muscle tone and tendon reflexes. It also can cause depressed intelligence. It can also cause Acrodynia, which is when the extremities experience severe pain. Pinkness, peeling of the hands, nose, and feet are all just some of effects of mercury poisoning.

Exploring Mercury Poisoning

Although no type of mercury exposure is good for human health, the severity of exposure depends on the toxicity of the mercury of which people have been exposed. For example, there has been much debate about the severity of the consequences of exposure to a type of mercury called methylmerceruy.

Recent studies suggest that exposure, even in the lowest doses, of this compound are highly toxic. The effects of mercury poisoning have also been linked to a plausible cause of autism within small children. While this is no concrete evidence linking these two areas, many people believe that trace amounts of mercury inare responsible for causing autism in young children. What do you think?

What is Chelation?

Chelation is the formation or presence of two or more separate bindings between a polydentate ligand and a single central atom. So what exactly does that tell us in more comprehendible terms? The chelate effect says that one who undergoes this process of the body will experience an enhanced affinity of chelating ligands for a metal ion compared to the affinity of a collection of similar nonchelating ligands for the same metal.

Well, I guess it turns out there is not an easy way to describe or define chelation. But let’s take a look at chelation therapy for a little more insight. This is described as the delivery of chelation agents to remove heavy metals from the body and this process is most commonly used to remove lead, arsenic or mercury from the body.

Mercury and Autism

Mercury is a hazardous metal that is capable of existing within a pure element or other organic/inorganic forms. This toxic metal can cause immune, sensory, neurological, motor and behavioral dysfunctions, which are all similar symptoms associated with autism.

Because mercury poisoning symptoms are so closely related to the signs of autism, many people are led to believe that the two are correlated. Parents of autistic children often speculate that traces of mercury in early childhood vaccinations may have led to the development of autism in their child, however, this theory has never been proven.

The Hive salon and the Sierra Club joined together to host an event for Lexington, Kentucky locals to get tested for mercury poison. Kentucky, according to Environment America, is sixth in the nation for mercury pollution. Coal power plants emitted approximately 6,000 pounds of mercury in 2009 alone.

Mercury is a neurotoxin that can put pregnant women at risk for birth defects. Birth defects from mercury poisoning include developmental disorders and lower IQs. The hair samples taken from the participants were mailed to a University of Georgia laboratory. Within a few weeks participants will know how much mercury they’ve accumulated in their systems. In the meantime, they have informational pamphlets to browse through detailing how to limit exposure to mercury.

Toxins can be categorized in two types. The first kind is natural toxic waste from normal cell metabolism. When we eat food, our body takes up all the nutrients, and what is left is waste and needs to be expelled. Other toxins are unnatural, in that they come from our environment through our food, water, and air. These toxins can include mercury, lead, and pesticides.

There are several ways to achieve detox naturally. You can eat healthier organic food and drink lots of water. You should also try to exercise more to sweat out toxins. If you live in an area where outside toxins are high, like in a city environment, it is wise to use heavy metal detox, also known as chelation.
